The Ashford LD CommunityInterest Company

has been formed to support people who have

a learning disability to make choices, become independent and integrate within their

 community.

The company works to achieve this through a

mix of services and trading in which it strives to

employ people with a learning disability

alongside others from the local community.

The company is a 'not for profit' company and

therefore any surplus will be reinvested in the

company and be used to benefit people with a learning disability.

Developed a web site forum for people to understand and discuss the issues around self directed support. www.kentldhub.btik.com

Your Opinion Matters!

Kent Adult Social Services are looking for volunteers to help shape the future:

Kent Adult Social Services' overall objective is to empower the people of Kent to identify, choose and control the support or care they need to live safely and independently in their local communities. We are modernising our services to ensure that people get good quality advice, access to new short term enablement services and, if ongoing support is needed, will be able to use a personal budget to choose the right support to live life as they want.

We consider it vital that service users and carers are put first in all that we do, shaping our services around your needs and preferences.

We want your views to become an integral part of our culture and everyday thinking, and there are many ways that you can help us at a level to suit you:

  • taking part in focus groups and/or being interviewed about services you receive

  • becoming a member of our user and carer panel

  • helping to recruit new staff

  • providing feedback, including taking part in surveys

Customer Care in East Kent (Canterbury, Swale, Dover, Thanet, Ashford and Shepway Districts) are looking to attract more volunteers who are interested in any of the above activities.

Please contact Customer Care on: Telephone:  01227 598 852, Textphone (Minicom): 08458 247 905  Or Email: CustomerCareEK@kent.gov.uk for further details and to sign up.

Valuing People Now Measurement Tool

This tool was designed for Learning Disability Partnership Groups to use when assessing the work that needs doing to achieve the vision set out in 'Valuing People Now'. The group use the chart to self assess the progress that has been made in their area so far and plan what needs doing next. Training in the use of this tool can be arranged by contacting us at info@ashfordldcic.co.uk or by phone 01233 612430.

This tool was designed to create a process for groups to use when making a decision. It should help to increase the involvement and understanding of everyone who is participating in making a decision.

Shared Ownership Housing

One of our directors has recently gained experience in this area of opportunity for people with a learning disability.

Should anyone be considering becoming a shared owner or if you are a carer who wants to explore this on behalf of someone, please contact us to see if we are able to help.
